Situated in an information capital of the world, the New York Chapter of the SLA reflects the Big Apple’s prominence in finance, communications, health care, publishing, and the arts. The Chapter’s members work in a broad spectrum of New York metropolitan area-based businesses and non-profit institutions. With 900 members, SLA-NY is one of the largest of the Association’s 56 chapters. The large size and great diversity of the New York Chapter make it a unique networking resource for its members.
There are chapter program meetings, professional development sessions and classes, networking luncheons, evening happy hours, and other events that link the community of information professional. Among the Chapter’s goals are to communicate the value of its members and to create opportunities to influence the knowledge industry. SLA-NY also seeks to heighten members’ capabilities through networking, professional development, and leadership opportunities.
The Special Libraries Association (SLA) is an international association of library and information services professionals with headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. SLA offers its 11,000 members a variety of professional development programs, government and public relations support, a resource center, annual conference and ongoing membership services, such as career services online and salary surveys. It’s vision is to be known as the leading organization in the information industry, a catalyst in the development of the information economy, and a strategic partner in the emerging information society.
