A Series of Special Events!

Our community is what makes us unique. Librarians always want to help each other out – whether seeking new information, moving into a new field, and getting together for happy hours.

This year, we’re hosting a series of special events to show appreciation for our wonderful SLA-NY community. These unique excursions promise to be fun, unique and free. Make sure to RSVP for them quickly as spots are limited and will surely fill up!

The Programming Committee has been hard at work – want a sneak peek at what we’re planning?

  • April brings a special visit to the New York Botanical Garden on a Friday night for their special Orchid Evenings, with a complimentary cocktail to enjoy while viewing Patrick Blanc’s Vertical Gardens. In June, we’ll be celebrating opening week baseball in June with the Staten Island Yankees and the Brooklyn Cyclones, including fireworks and all-you-can-eat buffet.
  • How about indulging our inner kids with a fun night of miniature golf at the kitsch Greenwich Village Country Club? It’s in the works!
  • We will say goodbye to summer with another all-American evening of hot dogs, fireworks, and baseball with the Staten Island Yankees (it was such a hit last year we decided to do it twice this year).
  • This fall brings a lovely Saturday afternoon at The Cloisters with a guided tour of the collection; the view from their terraces in the autumn is breathtaking!
  • Believe it or not, there are a few more social outings throughout the year that we’re still polishing to a shine … and we’d love your suggestions!

Can’t wait to get started? The first event of this very special year will be the Orchid Evening: enjoy a night among the orchids for free, courtesy of SLA-NY! Check your email on Monday, April 9th for the formal announcement – space will be limited and we expect this marvelous night to fill up quickly. Members will only be permitted to RSVP for themselves, but we will include information on how to purchase your own tickets separately if you would like to invite a friend or family member along.
